Backup and Share Incident Data

Frequent back up of incident data is a critical step in the GISS Workflow. A back up should be made of the incident data after each edit session. Additionally, Master Projects should be backed up daily as a set (and optionally individually after major updates) to \projects\backups, and any incident-specific feature services, such as Damage Assessment surveys or Evacuation Planning areas, should be backed up regularly to the GeoOps Incident Directory Structure.

Data should be backed up not only within the GeoOps Directory Structure, but the entire directory should be backed up to a secondary physical drive at least daily. Hard drives fail under normal conditions and ICPs are often anything but.

Back up of incident data is necessary to:

  • Minimize disruption and delay in the event of data corruption, loss, or unavailability.
  • Ensure access to incident data and products.
  • Ensure effective and efficient team transition.
  • Preserve the incident record.

eDoc Box

The Electronic Document Box, or eDoc Box, is a digital record of the incident. It is a folder in the General channel of the incident’s Team in the FireNet SharePoint environment. There may also be a physical Doc Box maintained, discuss expectations with the SITL regarding preservation of records.

Often, the GeoOps Incident Directory Structure is copied to the eDoc Box when the fire is transitioned back to the home unit or an organization that lacks GIS support. Follow direction from the SITL on transferring data.

NWCG is excited to announce that the 2025 NWCG Incident Response Pocket Guide (IRPG), PMS 461, is now available. Visit NWCG's website to learn about the major updates and changes in the 2025 version of the IRPG. The NWCG Guia de Respuesta de Incidente de Bolsillo (GRI), PMS 461-ES is available electronically and will be available from Great Basin Cache by early summer 2025.

All hard copy materials, including the IRPG, are ordered through the Great Basin Cache (GBK). Information on the ordering process can be found in the National Fire Equipment System (NFES) Catalog.

2025 Professional Reading Program

Professional Reading Program

Task Group Volunteers Needed to Update the Property Loss or Damage Report, OF 289

The Incident Business Committee (IBC) is requesting volunteers for a new task group to revise the 1981 version of the Property Loss or Damage Report, OF 289 and create an incident replacement job aid. 2025 Updates to the NWCG Standards for Wildland Fire Position Qualifications, PMS 310-1

The NWCG Incident and Position Standards Committee has updated the NWCG Standards for Wildland Fire Position Qualifications, PMS 310-1. 

These updates address changes to incident position names and requirements for qualification, training, and experience. Updates related to the implementation of Complex Incident Management (CIM) are also included.  

The NWCG Wildland Fire Position Qualification Flowchart, PMS 308 has also been updated to reflect the recent changes.
