Edit Incident Data

Editing the incident data is the first step in the cyclical portion of the GISS Workflow..

All editing of incident data should be done in the Edit Project on an Offline Copy.  Downloading a new Offline Copy is not necessary each time edits are needed in the same AOI, but the Offline Copy must be sync’d before and after editing data.

Edit Incident Data – Repeat as Necessary

  1. Edit the NIFS (Offline Copy).
    1. Secure information through the Situation Unit Leader (SITL) to create/edit incident data.
    2. Process/Convert/Import incoming data and store per GeoOps file structure.
    3. Open the Edit Project and sync Offline Copy. Edit incident data (only edit your incident).
      1. Edit the EventPolygon first. Calculate Geometries and populate attributes.
      2. Edit the PerimeterLine features to match the Wildfire Daily Fire Perimeter. Calculate Geometries and populate attributes.
      3. Edit the EventLine, EventPoint, and Accountable Property features in a logical order. Calculate Geometries and populate attributes.
      4. Edit the LabelPoint features to create assignment labels, if needed.
    4. Manage suppression repair data.
    5. Update Metadata in the DynamicTextUpdate table..
    6. Save data edits, sync Offline Copy, and save Edit Project.
    7. Export the latest fire perimeter to a progression GDB for use in the progression maps.
    8. Calculate containment, ownership acres, etc.

EMC Memo 25-001: Interim Rapid Extraction Module (REMS) Training and Qualification Requirements

The Emergency Medical Committee has issued interim guidance for Rapid Extraction Module Support (REMS) teams. Until further notice, Type I and II REMS teams must designate a team leader qualified at Firefighter Type 1 Squad Boss (FFT1) or higher. This temporary change replaces the Single Resource Boss (SRB) requirement, which is currently not feasible due to administrative barriers.

This memorandum does not include any other changes to the NWCG Standards for Rapid Extraction Module Support, PMS 552. This interim change takes effect immediately and will remain in place until further notice.

Equipment Bulletin 25-002: Chaps, Chain Saw, M-2020, Nonconformities Affecting Use, Appearance, and Serviceability

The Equipment Technology Committee issued Equipment Bulletin: 25-002 to address a manufacturing nonconformity affecting Forest Service specification, 6170-4K Chain Saw Chaps. The issue applies to chaps manufactured in 2024 and 2025 and distributed through FedMall. These chaps may have incorrectly bound edges that expose inner protective layers.

Independent purchasers should inspect all chain saw chaps received from FedMall beginning in 2024, prior to use. Review the full Equipment Bulletin: 25-002 for inspection criteria and recommended actions.
